About me.
It all begins with an idea.
A professional carer, who for the past 25 years has supported people achieve their dreams. I have a 25-year career working in the health care industry. I have supported people, go through college and university. Set up business’s, travel the world and raise a family. I have supported people go about their daily lives and help to promote their independence, whether it is promoting them to brush their teeth on their own or support them to achieve the things they thought were impossible.
Back in 1994, my best friend broke his neck paying rugby. The accident was so severe he ended up in a wheelchair. In 1998, he asked me to be his carer. I had no idea what this would entail but said yes. This decision would be one that changed my life forever, for the next 13 years. I helped my best friend to achieve his dreams, I supported him through college and university. He got to set up a business and build a house. I supported him and his wife to raise a child and travel the world with him. In 2012, I moved to Northeast England to start a new career with another young lad who had an unfortunate accident while at work, which left him in a wheelchair. I spent the next 12 years helping him do life, supporting him to achieve goals and ambitions that he had. Supporting him emotionally and professionally to be the best version of himself.
I have also worked in a supported living environment, helping people with learning difficulties live as independently as possible in their own supported living house. We promoted these people with daily tasks, such as personal hygiene, cooking and cleaning and how to access the local community. All these tasks were all carried out to promote their independence and self-worth.
This brings me to my current roles; I have a level 3 AET. This enables me to teach in a classroom environment or come to your place of work. I have a level 3 Train the Trainer Qualification in Manual handling of people, I have travelled the country teaching MHOP to various care homes and local councils. In December 24, I started a role working with a young lad who has a brain injury. I love helping him achieve goals and navigate through life as best he can. I love the challenge of supporting him as no two days are the same, I’m also learning how different brain injuries aren’t the same. I’m looking forward to doing more research and reading about different brain injuries and how they affect people differently.
